Everyone wore aprons when I was a child - there were aprons for cooking, aprons with pockets for clothespins when hanging laundry, aprons for gardening, children's aprons, and even fancy aprons for cocktail parties and holidays!  And, of course, Dad always had his special apron for barbecuing....
